in the beginning . . .
John and Stacy DiJulius opened John
Robert's Hair Design at 6118 Mayfield Road, Mayfield
Heights, on
February 15, 1993. At this address they
occupied a 900-square-foot unit in a strip shopping center.
They
originally opened with only two employees.
John and Stacy had two primary goals in mind. The
first was to provide high-quality beauty service to
the immediate and surrounding areas. The second goal
was to provide a place of employment where employees
in
a salon have similar benefits to those found in
any other industry. They decided not to go with the
traditional way of hiring employees, which would be
to hire experienced stylists from other salons with
existing clients. They wanted to do the majority of
their hiring from cosmetology schools and train them
their way-the proper way. Although knowing this
concept would require a little more time to build the
business, they were thinking of the long-term
advantages. Their new theory paid off, to say the
least, and due to the salon's commitment to hire
only the highest quality team members, John Robert's
reputation spread immediately for quality work and
excellent customer service. This caused the salon to
grow quite rapidly.
By September of '93, John Robert's expanded into a
full service salon by acquiring the next unit (6116
Mayfield), adding an additional 300 square feet. Through
this expansion John Robert's was able to increase
its styling stations by 8, and provide additional
services. John Robert's continued to grow at a
rapidly increasing pace due to their emphasis on a
thoroughly extensive training program for every
employee. Their reputation led them to an abundance
of media exposure. John Robert's has appeared on all
local television networks, numerous newspapers,
national magazines. A documentary was filmed on
them, and a local college used the salon as a case
study for excellent customer service.
In 1996 John Robert's expanded again. They again
acquired additional space in the next unit, bringing
their total to 2,200 square feet. They added a day
spa, and chemical/color room with the new expansion.
During the next 3 years, the team doubled. They
continued to grow, and began plans for further
expansion. Due to their limited parking situation,
they needed to find a new location.
In January of 1999, construction began on what is
now the Mayfield home of John Robert's Studios. The 7,000 square-foot facility opened May 1,
1999, in Eastgate Shopping Center in Mayfield
Heights. It includes a spa: with 4 treatment rooms,
a vichy shower, steam shower, a manicure/pedicure
sanctuary, and relaxing spa lounge; a men's salon:
private, sports themed room complete with a pool
table; a chemical/color room: with special
ventilation, a color lab for mixing personalized
color formulations, and high speed processing
equipment; the main floor with 20 styling stations;
an experience area: where guests are greeted upon
entering and encouraged to "test" our
AVEDA products
as well as browse through our team's portfolios; and
finally, a cafe: serving up tasty, healthy smoothies
and a variety of refreshments for our team and
guests.
Shortly after moving in to the new location, a call
center was added. This alleviated some of the
traffic at the front desk, allowing all calls to be
answered in a private area in the rear of the salon.
In November 2000, John Robert's opened a second
location in Solon, Ohio. At 2,300 square feet, this
beautiful facility houses a full spa, manicure area,
and main styling area with 8 stations.
January 2001, Team Energetics joined the John
Robert's team and added a personal training facility
at the Mayfield location. This unique concept houses
some of the latest and greatest training ideas and
equipment; including Northern Ohio's first moving
rock climbing wall.
As they continue to grow, the team is still the core
of who John Robert's is, and what they represent.
At John Robert's we derive success from
teamwork/SYNERGY:
Individual and team growth are stimulated by
the idea that the whole team working together can
accomplish much more than individuals working alone.
The concept of John Robert's Studios has
two main goals; 1) to clearly be recognized as the
leader in the beauty industry, both locally and
nationally, 2) to create a work environment that
offers stability, excitement, cohesiveness, superior
education, provides opportunities for growth,
recognition, and rewards you for your contributions.
The commitment of our present team is helping us
realize that concept.
John Robert's is not a place for just anyone to
work, nor do we want it to be. Our standards are
higher than anyone else in the industry and so are
the rewards. It is obvious everyday by the work and
dedication from our current team members. They have
been selected from a field of many applicants
because of their skills and abilities, and their
potential for a long and successful career with our
team.
Together we have the responsibility to overcome the
hurdles that have been laid before us by others in
our industry, that being the perception of the
beauty industry and it's team members. We must do
all that is possible to change that image and create
a new one. That being one that offers our guests
true professionalism: in legendary customer service,
in our technical ability to perform the best
service, and in our ethical evaluation and
recommendations. Simply put, we must exceed our
guests' expectations of what they perceive they will
receive with every visit to John Robert's Studios.
In order to be successful at anything, you must have
a purpose. And that purpose cannot be to benefit
you. In this industry, to be successful, your
purpose has to be "being a day maker." A "day maker"
is someone who makes other people's day by replenishing them and
providing them relaxation, pampering and beauty that
they could not otherwise obtain on their own. If
your purpose is truly selflessness, your own
benefits, whether they're personal fulfillment or
financial, will be greater than you had ever hoped.
For what finer tribute can one person give to
another than their uncompromising excellence? |
