Make Prom/Homecoming Night Your Best Night Ever!

Find hair and makeup inspiration from our professionals to help you stand out in the crowd and make your prom a success!

First find your dress, then think about hairstyles... You've got the perfect dress but unsure of what updo style to go for? Choose from updos, half-updos or just let your hair fall over the shoulders.

Updos are the most common hairstyle for Prom and Homecoming dance. It is very elegant and shows off the most delicate part of the body: the neck. It is also ideal to best display accessories, such as earrings and necklaces.

The look of the dress will help you determine what to do with your hair. If your dress is simple, you might want to opt for a more elaborate hairdo.  If your dress is the main focus, choose a more simple, elegant hairstyle to balance the look. If your shoulders are a great feature, pile that hair on top of your head and work them! Open back dress? Keep your hair pulled back and twisted up to show it off.

Half updos are a great solution for girls who want to show off their hair but keep it out of their face.  They are a great fit with some long pendant type earrings. It usually takes less time than a regular updo and the end result is beautiful.

Add curls and let them fall over the shoulders. Use AVEDA Air Control hair spray for light hold to set the style without making it stiff.  With the hair out of the way you achieve to open up your face and draw attention to the eyes instead. For medium hold, use AVEDA's Brilliant Medium Hold Hair Spray.

If curls are not your thing and prefer straight sassy hair, use straightening product to get the shine and protection from heat such as Brilliant Damage Control combined with Light Elements Smoothing Fluid, and flat iron your hair flipping the ends out.

Special Occasion Hairstyles are also a great option. Wear it all down and add loose curls and waves. It is great for medium to long hair.  When you wear your hair down, be careful not to overwhelm a petite frame. Using finishing products are very important. We recommend the Aveda Defining Whip or Air Control Hair Spray. Don't allow the hair to get frizzy. Keep movement and swing, you don't want the hair to be stiff.  Wearing it down is either a glossy, sleek, straight look, or a wavy, curly feminine style.

Makeup

When choosing makeup colors don't think it has to be matchy-matchy.

If your dress is colorful stick with neutral color palette. Or for a more subdued dress color add a pop of color with a teal liner to the eye or a colorful mascara.  Make sure not to look overdone. Choose either a bright lip or a bold eye. Remember: natural smokey eyes are in as well as a soft coral lip!

Don't leave the house with bed-head brows!  Be sure to see your brow professional at least a day before your event.
