Growing up my mom always downplayed Mother’s Day. She said she didn’t need one day out of the year to be doted on when we should be doing that for our loved ones on a regular basis. While I see her point, I have always loved the opportunity to plan out a special day that involved all of my mom’s favorite things. To me, it’s an chance to show my mom what she means to me and how much I appreciate having her in my life. One day, all about her, without everyday obligations. Mom’s special day!

With that in mind, every year I strive to get her the perfect gift. Something she wouldn’t buy for herself. Something she doesn’t know she needs. Something special. I’ve come to the conclusion however, that there isn’t a gift out there that she would enjoy as much as she enjoys time and experiences with her family.

So for the past few years I have ditched the traditional gifts and opted for an Experiential Gift List instead! That’s right…we do things together! Fun and unique activities for which we might otherwise not make time. That’s how we spend Mother’s Day! Here’s a portion of that list below, Enjoy!

No one wants mom to cook on her special day, so brunch is a great standby for family outings! I love a great brunch; it’s my favorite meal to eat out. If this is your style as well, here are some great brunch options to check out!

Gamekeepers Tavern– Chagrin Falls: 11:00am-2:30pm Mother’s Day Brunch
Burntwood Tavern– Multiple Locations: While there’s no special for Mother’s Day there is a Bloody Mary Bar!
100th Bomb Group– Brookpark Road: Mother’s Day Champagne Brunch from 9:30am-5:00pm includes A Bloody Mary Bar, Photos and Flower for Mom! The incredible view is a plus!

When it comes to experiences that my mom would not typically do on her own, a day at the spa is high on that list! When I first started working in the industry my mom had no interest in the spa life. She would always tell me “I don’t like being touched,” or “It’s just not for me.” All it took was one massage from the right therapist though, and my mom was singing all of the praises of spa life…and mine too!

This year the #BecauseMomisBeautiful spa day is the ideal gift for her! It’s a Spa Day that she gets to create on her own by choosing the 3 services she wants to have done. For $125+tax it’s a great deal for me and she can use it exactly how she pleases! Nailed it!

Lastly on my list of Mother’s Day experiential gifts are those that are fun for the entire family. These are great for spending the day with mom around town. Living in Cleveland we are privileged with great museums, theaters, and parks. Many of those we never take the time to actually experience. What’s better than getting out there and celebrating mom at the same time. Here’s a short list of the many creative outings you can plan for mom:

Carnival of Animals- Children’s Theater Series: May 7-8th great for Moms with kids ages 3-10
Mother’s Day at the Zoo- Cleveland Metroparks Zoo: May 8th 10am-5pm, Mom’s get in FREE!
Ohio State Park Lodges: Not just for overnight stays! Most of the Lodges offer a fabulous Mother’s Day Buffet that does not require a stay at the resort. Punderson Manor Lodge, in Geauga County, will also offer carriage rides through the park by Whispery Pines Carriage Rides from 11AM-4PM, special for Mother’s Day!
